Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a country with over 2.5 million horses that struggles with both poverty and severe climatic events.

SPANA has two mobile clinics and a very busy permanent veterinary centre in Debre Zeit. The main problems we treat are wounds, lameness, respiratory disease and a terrible fungal infection called EZL.

Driving change for Ethiopia’s working animals

Ethiopia’s thousands of taxi horses have a backbreaking job and are often exhausted. SPANA staff have managed to gain the trust of many drivers and are now able to show them how better welfare benefits not only their animals but also their livelihoods.
