Baki:
A working animal’s life can be a hazardous one and SPANA’s veterinary staff treat thousands of animals with wounds from badly fitting equipment every year, like Baki the mule.
Baki was brought into our Marrakech centre after his owner realised that wounds to his front shoulder and withers were serious.

Although Baki was well fed, it was obvious to the SPANA veterinary team by looking at his coat that he had suffered for years from badly maintained harnessing.
The vets cleaned Baki’s wounds and started him on a course of antibiotics. Doughnut bandages were then placed over the wounds to ease friction from harnessing equipment and ensure that Baki’s wounds could heal.
The vet team gave Baki’s owner advice on how to maintain his harnessing equipment and Baki’s owner told the team that now he knows about SPANA he will come to us if Baki injured again.
