Wherever, whenever

Wherever and whenever the next emergency happens... with your help, we’ll be there in a hurry.

SPANA has responded to save donkeys, horses and livestock caught up in natural disasters and conflicts in places like Chad, Darfur, Kosovo, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. We don’t know where or when the next crisis will occur, but it’s only a matter of time. However, when an emergency threatens the lives of working animals, time is a luxury we simply won’t have. We need the funds available to send our Emergency Response Team immediately to wherever it is they are urgently needed.  The quicker we can act in a crisis, the more lives we can save.

Help us stop an emergency turning into a disaster.

Many families in poor rural communities depend on their animals. A donkey or mule may be crucial to a family’s livelihood and health – carrying clean water from the only well three miles away or transporting a precious harvest to market. Cows and other livestock also provide a vital income.

However, in the wake of a natural disaster or conflict, parents struggle to put food and water in the mouths of their children, leaving little or nothing to spare for the animals. That can spell disaster; if a family loses their animals, they can lose everything!

If you can help us to save working animals and livestock in a crisis, we can protect a family from falling deeper into poverty. Together, we can stop an emergency turning into a disaster.

East Africa

More than 10 million people and their animals are in desperate need due to the worst drought in East Africa for 60 years. The whole region is in a state of humanitarian emergency. The scale of this crisis is overwhelming – donkeys and livestock are dying in huge numbers and for malnourished families who depend on animals for their livelihoods, the future is bleak. SPANA is doing what we can to help avoid famine by providing a feeding programme for livestock close to starvation.

£20 will help us to give nutritious food to working animals in times of famine

Darfur

In 2008 SPANA came to the aid of sick and injured animals belonging to people in the troubled region of Darfur. We funded medications that helped around 40,000 animals. In turn, these animals supported nearly 200,000 people.

For £15 we can give 18 animals a vitamin injection to help them recover from malnutrition.

 Afghanistan

Following a request from the British Army in Afghanistan in 2010, SPANA sent a team to the region to provide training for veterinary staff in this troubled region.

£50 will help to pay for a veterinary equipment bag filled with supplies vital for every vet in an emergency.

You can help us prevent needless suffering and loss of life
