Project name: Cambridge Mongolia Development Appeal (CAMDA)
Project type: Veterinary and emergency
Location: Dundgobi region
With SPANA’s help, CAMDA is providing much needed localised watering points for the mixed livestock of Mongolia’s nomadic herders as these are becoming ever more scarce.
Shortages mean animals have to be trekked long distances and are forced to share pasture and water with other herds with which they would normally have no contact. They suffer dehydration, hunger, hoof damage, become prone to parasites and infectious diseases and fail to build up the strength to survive Mongolia’s deadly dzuds (dry summers followed by harsh winters).
This project is currently building and refurbishing 12 wells in the region, providing lifesaving water all year round.
Since June 2017:
10 wells have been refurbished
Ongoing access to essential water has been secured for 45,800 animals and 66 herder families
