Couro the donkey foal, whose mother Keera was brought to the SPANA centre for treatment after a road collision

SPANA teams successfully provided treatment to thousands of working animals during the last year. The animals we have helped include Couro, the sweet foal pictured right, who lives in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Couro was brought to the SPANA centre with her mother, Keera. When Couro is older, she will help Keera transport construction materials around the busy town so her family can earn a small living.

Sadly, Keera suffered painful wounds when a passing vehicle knocked her cart, causing it to ram into her hindquarters. Fortunately, the donkey mare received the expert treatment she needed, and the pair were cared for at our centre until Keera had made a full recovery.

Thanks to your ongoing support, our teams can continue their vital work, giving working animals like Keera and Couro the care they desperately need and deserve. A kind gift from you today – no matter the amount – will help ease the suffering of other working animals worldwide.

Thank you so much for supporting SPANA.
