Working animals in Tanzania need you
For many of Tanzania’s 363,000 donkeys, life is incredibly hard, for both them and their owners. Disease, parasites and injury cause working animals untold misery. Persistent drought and the dark threat of the donkey skin trade are also an ever-present danger.
Sadly, so much suffering is caused by harmful animal welfare practices and a lack of basic vet care. While often not deliberate, many owners lack the skills and understanding to properly protect and care for their animals.
SPANA has been working with trusted partners in Tanzania since 2013. Committed and hardworking staff on the ground are doing great work to ease suffering, but the demand for their help is being stretched to the limit. This also means they are unable to collaborate to share resources, expertise and ideas.
Spread out across vast areas in Morogoro, Geita, Iringa and Arusha, these small project teams are desperate for more support to reach the animals that need them most. This is why the time is right to launch Tanzania as a new core country for SPANA.
