Jeremy Hulme's Christmas blog

A festive message from SPANA's chief executive

Well, it’s that time of year again.

Let’s be honest – it’s not exactly been an easy year for SPANA.

The Arab spring seemed to quickly turn into the Arab winter – Syria, Mali, Jordan, Tunisia and Morocco are all going through changes.

And animals of course have no say in it all – this little abandoned foal in Jordan knows nothing of politics.  It just needs a bottle of warm milk and a little TLC.

Maybe that’s why so far SPANA’s programmes have been left in peace. People know that we’re only trying to help working animals and the people in poor communities that rely on them for their livelihoods.

And often, we’re the only ones there to care.  I’m especially proud of the fact that even when things are getting really grim, we’re still there to care for animals.

So, a very happy Christmas to you all, but please don’t forget, that now, next year, the year after, there will always be animals like this little chap that have no other hope but SPANA.
