Mouna the mule supports her owner, Adam, navigating tourists through Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains. Her old pack saddle had been rubbing against her withers, causing a painful pressure sore. Despite Adam’s care, the wound wasn’t healing. When the mobile clinic visited their remote village, Imlil, our vets thoroughly cleaned Mouna’s wound and applied a soothing ointment and protective wound dressing. They fitted her with a ‘doughnut bandage’ – a padded bandage with a hole in the middle used to relieve pressure and allow wounds to heal. The vets advised Mouna’s owner to return for a follow-up in two days to remove the dressing. They then showed him how to fit the saddle properly with appropriate padding to prevent future injury.
