This gift can help pay towards a comfortable new bit for an animal like Damme, preventing discomfort and painful mouth wounds.

Damme the carthorse was brought to SPANA’s Bishoftu centre in Ethiopia, after his owner, Sisay, noticed that he wasn’t eating. During examination, our vet discovered a large wound on Damme’s tongue, caused by his damaged and ill-fitting bit. On realising the problem, the vet cleaned Damme’s wound to make sure it was free from any accumulated food or damaged tissue. He then gave Damme anti-inflammatories to relieve his pain, and explained to Sisay the importance of using safe equipment to keep Damme comfortable and prevent wounds.

Damme was given a new bit and Sisay was shown how to fit it properly. With your support, we can make life easier and safer for animals like Damme, by distributing comfortable new bits that won’t cause injuries in the future.
