In rural Namibia, working animals like Rauna, a lovely chestnut horse, have a vital role in supporting the livelihoods of many families. Rauna was brought to our mobile clinic suffering with mange, a painful condition caused by mite bites on her legs, which resulted in itchy bald spots with scaly, thickened
skin. Our vet treated Rauna’s mange, and also provided a brand-new headcollar to replace her uncomfortable rope harness. The makeshift collar was starting to rub on her nose which could lead to wounds prone to infection. Rauna’s comfortable new headcollar not only alleviates her suffering by protecting her from injury – but also ensures her continued wellbeing and ability to support her owner’s family.
