He administered eye drops and further anti-inflammatories to reduce the swelling and advised Ganesh not to work Bari for a few days until his vision had recovered fully.
Dr Swami explained:
‘If Bari went blind in that eye, Ganesh would have difficulty controlling him. He would be at risk of injuring himself or falling over and he would also be a danger to other road users.’
To ensure Bari’s full recovery, he gave additional medication for Ganesh to administer over the following week.
Ganesh, whose family depends on the income that Bari brings, was relieved that the team came to the rescue so quickly. He said:
‘I’m very happy with the treatment. Without it our camels suffer. My life would be very difficult without Bari.’
Thanks to supporters’ regular donations, SPANA is able to provide care to even more camels across India. In addition, we are training working animal owners across the world to help them better understand how to look after their animals. With your help, we can ensure that a life of work doesn’t mean a life of suffering.
