Whether you or your guests are vegetarian , be the ultimate host this holiday season with sweet treats that everyone can eat. The products listed below make fantastic gifts for loved ones, but also provides a guilt-free treat for yourself this Christmas.
Vegetarian biscuits
Most biscuits are vegetarian. However, the occasional uninvited guest may make an appearance if you aren’t careful. Some of your favourite biscuits may have one or two meaty ingredients that you weren’t expecting. It’s important to check that no animal derivatives have been used – this is always outlined on the label.
These family favourites are examples of the best vegetarian biscuits on the market:
Bourbons
Fox’s Chunkie Cookies
Oreos
SPANA’s Mad Dogs Shortbread
Vegetarian sweets
If you’ve just turned vegetarian, finding sweets that you can eat may have come as a nasty surprise. A lot of sweets contain meat derivatives, whether it’s fat or gelatine. Thankfully, a high number of our favourite sweets have always been or have become vegetarian recently.
Skittles
Starburst – Starburst made in the UK isn’t made with gelatine. However, the US version is, so, if you’re abroad, make sure to check which version of Starburst you’re eating.
Jelly Tots
SPANA’s Luxury Blackberry & Raspberry Jellies
Vegetarian chocolate
Aside from chocolate containing obvious animal products, like milk, sometimes chocolate can contain other animal products that we might not be aware of. Pure dark chocolate typically contains the least ingredients (cocoa, butter and sugar) and so in most cases is vegan. It’s still important to check as some versions are not 100% dark.
Some chocolate products contain animal by-products such as stearic acid (animal fat). The following, however, are happily vegetarian and suitable for those who don’t eat animal
products.
Hotel Chocolat Vegan Range
Moo Free Mini Moos Bar Cheeky Orange
Cadbury Dairy Milk – These are vegetarian but do contain dairy milk, so aren’t suitable for vegans
SPANA’s Luxury Chocolate Selection – These contain dairy milk so aren’t vegan. However, you can check out our guide to the best vegan sweet treats.
