This gift can provide bandages and wound dressings to help an animal like Jadia get back on their feet.

When 12-year-old Mariem spotted a working mule lying on the ground in Safi, Morocco, she could tell that the poor animal was in a great deal of pain and discomfort. With no owner in sight, it was clear that she had been abandoned. Mariem had heard about SPANA at school and called us for help. The girl stayed by the mule’s side until the team arrived with their rescue vehicle. The mule – who Mariem had affectionately named Jadia – was very weak and struggled to stand. The team thanked Mariem before rushing Jadia to the Chemaia centre for immediate treatment.

Our vets examined Jadia’s forelimbs and found that her tendons were severely contracted. The team performed an operation under local anaesthetic to help correct the problem in her legs. Our vets then sutured, applied dressings, and bandaged both front legs to start the healing process. The operation was successful, and Jadia recovered in three weeks.
