Yezda was brought to our mobile clinic in Iraqi Kurdistan, when her concerned owner Ibrahem noticed her weeping eye. The SPANA team carefully examined the inflamed tissue around Yezda’s eye, as well as the eye’s surface, to determine the cause of her discomfort. Immediately, they noticed that Yezda’s eye was slightly blue, which is a telltale sign of corneal oedema and possibly bacterial infection. The vet stained her cornea with a special, harmless dye to check for ulcers and foreign bodies. Thankfully, there were no signs of either, but it did confirm that Yezda was suffering from conjunctivitis, which required treatment. The vet gently flushed her eye with saline to alleviate the burning pain, before applying an antibiotic ointment. Her owner was instructed to apply the soothing treatment daily and was discharged with a full course of ointment to ensure that Yezda’s eyesight improved.
