Lifesaving Surgery Gift

Aisha, a five-month-old foal, was suffering from an umbilical hernia when she was brought to SPANA’s Marrakech centre in Morocco by her owner, Abdultive. Umbilical hernias occur when muscles around the navel form improperly after birth. Knowing that this condition can lead to severe complications, our veterinary team determined that the young foal needed surgery immediately. After anaesthetising Aisha, the vets made a small incision in Aisha’s abdominal wall to reduce the hernia. They then stitched the incision and dressed the wound. The surgery was a success, but the foal would require careful monitoring during her recovery. Aisha and her mother were cared for at the stables for two weeks until she was well enough to return home.
