Bright Eyes Gift

Lewie the horse transports water to a dairy farm in Dalota, Ethiopia. His owner, Gezahegn, had noticed Lewie had been irritable lately and was having difficulty keeping one of his eyes open. At the centre in Bishoftu, the vets examined the horse and found he was suffering from a corneal ulcer and conjunctivitis, causing him to keep this swollen eye shut. The team administered a topical antibiotic and anti-inflammatories to treat the problem and ease Lewie’s discomfort. Not only was his condition painful, if left untreated it could have led to blindness.
