Fund a Farrier Gift

Lameness is one of the most common conditions working animals face, affecting thousands each year. Thankfully, it can often be prevented through proper farriery. In the countries where we work, SPANA trains local farriers, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and equipment to prevent hoof problems and improve animal welfare.

At our Marrakech centre in Morocco, Sanaa the donkey was diagnosed with contracted tendons, a painful condition which was causing the donkey to walk on her toes and had made her hooves grow unevenly. After pain relief was administered, our skilled farrier trimmed Sanaa’s overgrown hooves with special tools to ensure they were balanced and even. Her owner was then advised to return for routine hoof checks and trimming.

Farrier training not only helps ensure animals can receive immediate relief today, but also protects future generations of animals, while benefitting the families who depend on them.
