Zanjabil the horse and her owner, Abdelatif, transport construction materials around Chemaia, Morocco. Recently, Zanjabil stopped eating and started losing weight, causing Abdelatif great concern. At the SPANA centre, the vets discovered that remnants of her milk teeth, known as caps, were blocking her adult teeth from erupting. This prevented proper growth, causing pain and swelling and making it uncomfortable for Zanjabil to eat.

The skilled vets administered anti-inflammatory pain relief and sedated Zanjabil, before removing the caps and rasping her teeth to smooth out sharp edges that could cause ulcers. Abdelatif also received guidance on proper feeding and the importance of regular routine dental checks to support his horse’s recovery and keep her teeth healthy in future.
