This August the ‘Vets with Horsepower’ return!
Since 2010 these motorbike riding leading equine vets have raised funds for animal welfare charities and less-abled children in Africa, by travelling the length and breadth of the UK each summer to deliver cutting edge lectures to veterinarians and horse owners in return for donations.
But this year the seven-strong team of top equine vets led by Professor Derek Knottenbelt set off on their toughest challenge yet. The team are planning to travel over 3,000 miles by motorbike and deliver lectures to eight European and African veterinary schools, in just two weeks.
The team will ride through Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Morocco and Spain, and will give lectures to over 500 vets and animal owners along the way, with the aim of raising £125,000 for SPANA.
All money raised will provide SPANA with diagnostic and surgical equipment for the charity’s veterinary clinics for working animals in Mali and Mauritania, and will go towards further developing the Bamako Disabled Riding Centre, Mali.
