A message from our Chief Executive

As we approach the end of 2024, I want to send you heartfelt wishes for happiness, health and cherished moments with those you love. Your commitment to SPANA’s mission has brought hope and care to working animals in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities, and we are deeply grateful.

Thanks to your kind support this year, SPANA has been able to deliver food, shelter, and lifesaving care to hundreds of thousands of working animals. Your generosity has reached animals in need around the world – from brave working dogs in Malawi and caleche horses across Morocco, to donkeys and camels working tirelessly in India’s brick kilns.

In addition to essential treatment, we’ve been working to bring about sustainable improvements to working animal welfare. In the last year, your kindness has helped train owners and teach children about good animal care. And it’s helped us advocate for working animal welfare on the global stage, giving these remarkable creatures a voice and highlighting their value and significance.

Our campaigning efforts helped secure a landmark victory earlier this year – the historic Africa-wide ban on the brutal donkey skin trade, which will save thousands of donkeys from slaughter.

Everything we achieved this year simply would not have been possible without wonderful supporters like you. Your kindness is making such a difference to the lives of working animals. Thank you.

Your support also empowers us to respond to crises affecting working animals around the world. This past year has seen disastrous weather events across the globe, as the climate crisis poses a significant threat to animals, people and the environment. Sadly, events like these are becoming more frequent and widespread. But despite the challenges, your support is helping SPANA’s courageous and dedicated teams prepare communities and provide emergency assistance. There is a great deal of work still to do, but I am so positive about the strides we are making together and the opportunities that lie ahead. Together, we can build a more compassionate and caring world where every working animal lives a healthy and valued life.

From everyone at SPANA – and the countless animals and communities whose lives you’ve touched this year – thank you.

Wishing you a joyous holiday season and a wonderful New Year.

Linda Edwards, SPANA Chief Executive
