Working animals are starving due to the Covid-19 crisis

Although restrictions are easing in many developed countries, the impact of the pandemic continues to devastate the lives of working animals in areas where we work. Many animal owners have lost their livelihoods overnight, and can simply no longer afford to feed their hardworking animals.

As a result, many animals have had very little to eat. They are struggling, overworked and starving. Sadly, many are fighting for their very survival.

This is why our work is more important than ever. Without the emergency feed and care our dedicated vets provide, the crisis caused by Covid-19 will continue to take the lives of thousands of vulnerable working animals.

Your kind donation today can help ensure SPANA vets can continue to provide nutritious food and urgent care to animals who need it most.

Balla the horse receives urgent treatment and care at the SPANA centre

Balla’s story

Balla the 16-year-old horse had become dangerously malnourished due to lack of food and parasites. Without treatment, she wouldn’t have survived.

The Covid-19 pandemic has seriously affected the local economy in Nouakchott, Mauritania. Owners of working animals, like Balla, have been struggling to earn a living and SPANA has been providing emergency food to make sure working animals don’t go hungry.

Balla’s owner, Boubacar, had previously come to the centre for animal food and so knew he could bring Balla for treatment. Our expert vets gave Balla anti-parasite treatment and enough nutritious feed to last her on the road to recovery. They requested that Balla return to the centre for regular check-ups.

Boubacar said, ‘This is my second time in the SPANA stables. The first time they helped us by giving me food for my horse. Now I have come because my animal is having eating problems. The vets helped Balla and gave me good advice. Thank you for your help.’

Thanks to the generosity of our kind supporters, we were able to feed and treat Balla, but the pandemic is still threatening the lives of thousands of other starving animals, who rely heavily on your support.

Your kind donation today can feed a hungry animal and go a long way in helping working animals during this challenging time.

Please, if you can, give a gift today to help feed starving working animals. Thank you so much for your support.
