Established in 1923, SPANA’s goal is to improve the welfare of working animals in the world’s poorest communities. We treat horses, donkeys, mules, camels and other animals in desperate need by providing free veterinary care. We train owners to work more compassionately and effectively with animals. We teach children about animal welfare so the next generation will grow up giving working animals the kindness and respect they deserve.
In the developing world, just one working animal can support an extended family of up to 30 people. Our work improves the lives of working animals while supporting the communities that depend on them.
