Buy from charitable organisations
Whether you’re gifting a friend or treating yourself, buying from a charitable animal organisation is a great way to indirectly help animals. Check out the SPANA shop where you can buy calendars, soft toys, food and home and garden accessories. All proceeds go towards helping working animals in need.
Appreciate the environment and wildlife
Making environmentally-friendly decisions is another way to help animals indirectly. Climate change and the destruction of wildlife habitats are impacting many animals around the world, like polar bears and orangutans. Reducing your carbon footprint by doing things like recycling, limiting plastic usage, and walking or cycling when possible is extremely important.
You can also appreciate the wildlife that you may find in your local area! Even if you only have a small space, you can utilise it for wildlife to thrive. Providing water and birdfeed is a great way to start.
You can also join community efforts like park and beach clean-ups to do your bit and help animals in your area.
Report animal abuse
If you experience anyone acting inappropriately towards an animal, it is extremely important that you report it. If you are concerned about a working animal in a country in which we work, please do contact us and we will make an attempt to locate and assist the animal if possible. If you have concerns regarding an animal in the UK, please contact the RSPCA.
Volunteer
The last item on our guide on helping animals is volunteering. Whether it is dog walking, cleaning, campaigning, IT assistance or research, every single volunteer is helping improve the lives of animals in some way. Get in touch with your local vets or animal shelter to find out if they need volunteers.
