Rapid Response and Rescue E-Gift

This gift can help fund SPANA’s emergency projects, ensuring the working animals of the world are not forgotten in times of crisis.

In September 2023, a powerful earthquake hit Morocco, devastating communities and tragically killing and injuring thousands. Within days, our local teams were providing lifesaving veterinary care and emergency feed and water to injured, hungry, displaced, and abandoned animals.

During the crisis, working mules in the High Atlas Mountains acted as ‘first responders’, transporting vital supplies to isolated communities on treacherous paths inaccessible to vehicles. Our teams also ensured that these brave creatures received proper care, including food, water, harnessing and equipment.

Importantly, in addition to responding to emergency situations, SPANA works closely with trusted local partners to reduce animal suffering and casualties before disasters hit, establishing food storage, animal evacuation routes and mass vaccinations. By funding disaster preparedness projects like these, we can better protect working animals from the increasing dangers they face, whether it’s extreme weather, natural disaster, economic crises, or war and conflict.
