This beautiful three-month-old camel named Msiaidia was brought to our Kebili centre in Tunisia. After noticing the baby camel lagging in his herd, her worried owner, Ali, sought out emergency care. Poor Msiaidia had been struggling to feed and was weak, listless and suffering from diarrhoea.
The vet team settled Msiaidia down comfortably in the treatment area, before diagnosing her with internal parasites. The young camel had been struggling to extract nutrients from the little milk she was taking as parasites – rampant in this part of rural Tunisia – had leached precious vitamins and minerals from her.
During her four-day stay, the team treated her with anti-parasite medication, before bottle-feeding her and administering vitamin injections to re-build her strength. After recovering, Msiaidia was reunited with her owner. To ensure the health of his herd, Ali also received a visit from our mobile clinic team, who examined the camels and provided any necessary deworming treatments.
