Razak the donkey works up to 10 hours a day hauling bricks and equipment in Nouakchott, Mauritania, enabling his owner, Abdoul, to earn a meagre income. When Razak became unwell, our veterinary team at the Nouakchott centre examined him and diagnosed intestinal parasites and malnutrition, common issues that deplete working animals of their energy. To aid his recovery, Razak was given anti-parasite medication and nutritious feed. He was then admitted to our stables to rest and recuperate, where he received follow-up treatment, fresh water and quality feed. The rest and care at the centre helped Razak regain his strength and return to his vital work safely.
