When Zoro the horse suffered a horrific injury to his leg, his owner took him straight to SPANA’s veterinary centre in Marrakech for emergency treatment.
Zoro, a five-year-old horse, helps his owner, Adit, to earn a small living by pulling a fruit cart around the streets of Marrakech, in Morocco. Without Zoro, Adit would be unable to support his wife and children.
Early one morning, Zoro and Adit were making their way into the city when Zoro was frightened by a loud noise. The startled horse veered off the road and caught his leg on a sharp object. Adit calmed Zoro down but was horrified to discover that Zoro’s left front leg was bleeding. Luckily, they were not far from SPANA’s busy veterinary centre in Marrakech, so Adit immediately took Zoro there for help.
At the centre, SPANA vets inspected Zoro’s wound carefully. They gently cleaned the injury and an X-ray was taken of Zoro’s leg. Thankfully, the X-ray revealed that, although there was minor damage to the bone, his leg was not fractured. The vets stitched and dressed the wound, then administered painkillers and antibiotics to make Zoro more comfortable and to prevent infection.
Adit was advised by our vets that Zoro would need to rest for at least two weeks. He was also shown how to keep Zoro’s injury clean during the healing process.
Adit was delighted that SPANA vets were able to give Zoro the vital treatment he needed. He said: ‘Zoro is my main source of income. I am grateful that there are people who care. Without SPANA’s help, I wouldn’t be able to continue working.’
