Vets on the Road (Half Day) E-Gift

Menelik, a six-year-old donkey from Wajitu Kebele, in Ethiopia, works daily transporting vegetables, grain and firewood. One day while working, he suffered a small scrape which his owner, Fikadu, initially treated himself. Weeks later, the wound still hadn’t healed, prompting Fikadu to seek help at SPANA’s mobile veterinary clinic. Our vets examined Menelik and determined that the wound had become infected, causing the donkey serious pain.

The vets administered antibiotics, provided anti-inflammatory pain relief and then thoroughly cleaned the wound. They also advised Fikadu on proper wound care and how to ensure Menelik’s comfort, emphasising the importance of professional treatment. Finally, they scheduled follow-up visits at the mobile clinic, which plays a vital role in reaching animals in remote areas like Wajitu Kebele, where veterinary services are scarce.
