About the challenge
Explore all that Peru has to offer with a 10-day trek through the Andes ending at the world famous 15th century ruins of Machu Picchu. This Incan citadel sits more than 2,400 metres above sea level, taking in the vast expanses of the river valleys and forests below. The trek lets your explore the diversity of this beautiful country, leading you and your fellow fundraisers over mountains and through lush jungles before reaching this incredible UNESCO World Heritage site.
Throughout this adventure you can enjoy this unique fundraising experience knowing that you are in good hands with the experienced Discover Adventure staff of guides and doctors as well as a friendly local support crew of porters, guides, cooks, and drivers.

Taking part in a sponsored trek abroad is a fantastic way to explore the world while doing your bit for charity. SPANA affiliate, Discover Adventure, runs regular Open Challenges, combining the thrill of discovering new and exciting destinations with the knowledge that every step that you take on one of their treks helps SPANA help more working animals. Open Challenge slots are available throughout the year.
The cost of your trip includes accommodation, flights and internal transport, camping equipment, meals, trekking permit, entrance to Machu Picchu and other sights of interest. Costs also cover the Discover Adventure team who will be guiding you through this once in a lifetime experience.
Due to high altitude and rocky terrain, this is one of the more challenging climbs – recommended for participants with a good level of fitness and endurance. The trek will run through valleys, mountain passes, cloudforest paths, and will cover more than 40 km in total. We recommend trekkers train in advance of this trip in order to enjoy the experience to the fullest.
Sponsorship fees are dependent on the time of the year that you take on this exciting challenge. Costs range from £399 to £499 for registration to secure your place with a commitment to raise a further £4,000 for your charity. The registration fee guarantees your place on the trip and is non refundable. Once you hit your fundraising target – to be donated to SPANA no later than 10 weeks before departure – SPANA will fund your trip costs.
If you have any worries about hitting this target, please speak to a member of the SPANA fundraising team. Or, you can self-fund and pay £399-£499 registration fee and a further £1,750 before the trip. You can then donate 100% of your fundraising to SPANA.
